Classroom module 1 (half day):

•    Benefits of herbal leys, their economic importance and species selection for given scenarios
•    Forage productivity, livestock nutrition and health 
•    Resilience, soil benefits, biodiversity benefits, economic benefits
•    Identification of common herbal ley species and selection for use in a range of scenarios 

Classroom module 2 (half day):

•    Establishing and managing herbal leys
•    Germination and root development
•    Establishment requirements, methods and approaches
•    Nutrient and weed control requirements
•    Grazing management and infrastructure requirements
•    Cutting and ensiling
•    Managing in adverse conditions 

Learning outcomes

At the end of this course you will be able to:

•    Identify and select major plant species and their benefits and growth requirements
